3rd Annual Antique Sled Show = SUCCESS
This past Saturday we held our 3rd Annual Antique Sled Show 'N' Shine. The weather was decent---would have been better if the snow was not melting plus the rain later, but it was well attended! It was better than last year though when we had the wind chill nearly -40C.
We had 27 sleds registered ranging from '62 to '96. We had lots of Polaris, some Ski-doos, a few Arctic Cats, and a couple Yamahas. Special mentions to the '80 John Deer 440 Sport Fire, the '69 Massey Ferguson 350 Ski Wiz, and a '71 Snowpony 180! It seemed like a lot of spectators came out to check out all of these beauties and voted on our five categories:
The Oldest Sled won by Leon Côté with his '62 Polaris Auto Boggan (4 HP)
Pre '70s won by Mike Schnell with his '69 Polaris 164 Playmate (which has a twin!!)
Best of '70-'80 won by Ken Baker with his '78 Yamaha 440 SRX
Best of '80-'90 won by Brian Neufeld with his '81 Yamaha 340 Excel III
Best in Show won by Jerry Kallal with his '70 Ski-Doo 292 TNT
Congratulations to all of the winners!
After, we had an approximately 35km ride (round trip) from Rochon Sands to the Crater Shack and back. Some of the ol' sleds made the trek....and some did not. It was still fun though and got the sleds back safely. The snow got a wee bit sparse in parts because of the temperatures on Saturday, but it was still doable. I believe everyone had a good time.
We would like to say some thank you's:
For the guys and gals who brought their antique sleds to show us all.
Sobey's Stettler & Sean's No Frills for donating food for our concession
Heartland Auto for the pellets for the BBQ
Heartland Marine & Sports, Highline, Romar, the Alberta Snowmobile Association for the prizes.
Heartland Marine & Sports for the side-by-side shuttle service to and from the hall and marina for parking.
For all of the volunteers who helped make the show go as smoothly as possible. We could not do this event without you!
